SmartJCL: The most cost-effective JCL validator for the data center
In today's fast-paced business world, reliable and highly available production systems represent an important competitive advantage. Job Control Language (JCL) is a critical component for the smooth operation of these systems. However, faulty JCL code can hinder production processes and cause significant delays. Due to its complexity, however, dealing with JCL is not easy. This means that there is a high risk of errors every time new or updated JCLs are imported. Our cost-effective JCL management tool SmartJCL ensures high-quality JCL checks and enables the creation of error-free JCL code.
Advantages at a glance
Scheduler interfaces
One of the biggest advantages of SmartJCL is the integrated interface to IWS: SmartJCL optimizes JCL management by simulating variable substitution, which is crucial for the use of IWS variables in elements such as DSN. It provides optional displays of IWS information within the JCL, including application ID and job dependencies, and enables the selection of jobs from AD or CP based on various criteria. With the ability to check JCL against different simulation modes in the production sequence and simulate catalog actions, SmartJCL provides valuable functionality to identify and correct errors in advance throughout the production workflow.
In addition to TWS, SmartJCL also supports Control-M and offers functions such as the simulation of Control-M variable substitution (AUTO-Edit function) and the option of selecting jobs to be checked by table, group, application and other criteria.
The SmartJCL REXX interface enables access to all JCL parameters from your REXX programs. This enables access to all JCL instructions for checking and modification using simple REXX code.
Remote Check
The remote check component of SmartJCL enables JCL checks to be carried out on an alternative system. This speeds up the process by comparing a test or development system with the libraries of the production system. This function simplifies the comparison of the JCL of the test or development system with the libraries of the production system. This avoids the JCL having to be manually transferred to the other (remote) system, logged on to this system and checked locally on this system. SmartJCL Remote Check is based on the common TCP/IP architecture.
JCL Reformat
Use the formatting function to quickly and easily change the JCL format and adapt it to compatible standards.
With the JCL reformatting function, administrators can individually define the positions of keywords, values and continuation lines for each JCL parameter - tailored to the needs of your company. Users can access this function directly from the ISPF editor via a simple line command.
Once launched, the JCL is automatically reformatted to fit your specifications. This streamlines the process and ensures consistency across all JCL documents.
Check jobs in the production sequence
SmartJCL can also check complex job streams. Catalog actions can be simulated in advance to avoid conflicting scheduling parameters. If the jobs are not checked in the correct order, the JCL check tool displays a message such as "Data set not found". The TWS interface of SmartJCL sorts the jobs according to planned start times and thus checks them in the correct order.
Key features
JCL Checker for every data center
EveMan enables an event-driven real-time response to incidents. This ensures that problems are detected and dealt with immediately, significantly improving system availability and reliability.
Data sources
SmartJCL analyzes the JCL and all relevant components: Procedures, symbolic parameters, utility statements, DASD and UNIT availability, dataset availability and scheduler variables.
Scheduler variables
SmartJCL replaces the scheduler variables with the corresponding correct values.
