Seminar content: This seminar provides knowledge on the use and administration of DFSMShsm. Various aspects of Availability Management and Space Management are discussed. These topics shape the character of DFSMShsm as a core component of DFSMS.

Group work and detailed practical exercises with discussion of the solutions will deepen the learned contents.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Overview DFSMShsm and memory management
  • Space Management:
    • File migration
    • Automatic deletion of files
    • Control via the Management Class
  • Availability Management:
    • Files backup
    • Backup volumes
    • Fast Replication Backup (backup of copy pools with FlashCopy)
    • Optional: Application Backup (ABARS)
    • Recovery of data with the help of the various backups
    • Using tape as a medium
    • Maintenance of the HSM Control Data Sets
    • Analysis and recovery from error situations
